Final Assignment: Project Rubric Option B:
I decided to do coding for my final project. What can I really say about coding!? Other then the fact that it is a major pain in the behind from time to time. I am going to highlight how I learned about coding using various links on the internet as aid. As well as the program I used to build the page I wanted to do. The first part of the process was learning how to use HTML. Finding out the basics and how to apply them to the page I wanted to build. I used Youtube to look up the basics, And saw how it looked to do it in live action. A link below is one of the videos I used.
I also used a great website to learn some of the basics and I guess some of the complexities of trying to code and set up your own webpage. I highly recommend this site, it really gave me a great run down on how to start by using lots of visual examples. And very clear basic language that did not leave me in a state of utter confusion, scratching my head wondering “what do I do next?” It breaks the steps down for you one by one and that’s why I loved used this website. The link to access it is below.
Using HTML was a bit of a challenge for me since I am not really a tech guy. But what it stands for is (Hypertext Markup Language), a standardized system for tagging text files to achieve font, color, graphic, and hyperlink effects on World Wide Web pages. I was able to use HTML to make my website look the way I wanted. Even though using HTML is the basic part of coding I did still struggle with it. I did not get into CSS very deeply and stuck to learning about HTML and how I could use that to give my page the look I wanted. Not to mention most of my hours required came by making my code and making sure that it worked.
I created a webpage using this coding information. I am a big pop culture guy. And my favourite movie is Top Gun with Tom Cruise. So I created a page that consisted of a quiz about the movie. You would answer the questions and submit your answers. The page will then factor your answers and correct them and return your score to you. Unfortunately, I did make an error somewhere inside my code. And it is quite the task to go about “debugging” your code. It can literally be just one letter in the wrong place in a long series of script inside your code. I plan on looking into it further and finding the error. Below I used a program called “TextWrangler” to do my coding in. It is a great program used for text editing. Including web authoring, capabilities and software. Below are pictures of all my code using the TextWrangler program:
Using this code formed my page which is a Top Gun Trivia test. At the start of this assignment I really struggled with the complexity of the wording and lingo of coding. But thanks to some online resources and videos I found a way to form my own code. Although there is an error somewhere within my code which doesn’t allow for my page to correct the quiz and give feedback. I do plan on learning more about debugging and becoming better at recognizing errors within my code and how to correct it. I could definitely see me using this skill later on in life as an educator and I plan on becoming better at it. I am really glad I chose this topic. Unfortunately WordPress will not allow me to upload the document my page is located on. So below is a picture of my page with all the answers filled in. Enjoy and have a great summer!
